Our
Community Support Program is designed to help the people that we serve
develop important life skills. While they are doing this, they get the
chance to help other people in the community in a variety of ways,
through volunteering and service projects. They also get the
opportunity to develop community awareness through various educational
experiences.
Some
of the volunteers help at the local A.S.P.C.A., the Good Shepherd Food
Bank, the Maine Wildlife Park, and also provide community service for
organizations such as the Catholic Charities of Maine, (S.E.A.R.C.H.)
Seniors Plus (Meals on Wheels) and the Elder Independence of Maine
Program.
Physical
fitness activities such as hiking, exercises, and sport programs are
available to those participants whose individual plan allows them. This
program also focuses on personal growth in areas of attention span,
communication skills, scheduling, personal behaviors, following
instructions, peer interactions, relationships, transportation
independence, and recreation activities.
The
activities available are designed to meet the needs of the individual,
with the focus on improving the quality of life through helping them to
achieve their goals, and realize their full vocational, educational,
economic, emotional, and social potential.
